Loving…PicMonkey

While it is possible, I think it’s quite a rare thing for a photo to be perfect straight out of the camera, more often than not I find that most photos need a little bit of tweaking to bring out the best in them.  While there are many great photo editing programs out there, many are either expensive (I’m a Lightroom addict, but it’s quite an investment), or not very user-friendly (Gimp is a great free program similar to Photoshop, but it takes quite a while to get used to the interface, especially if you aren’t familiar with photo editing programs).  I’ve also found that many of the online photo editing programs are very limited, or just try to lure you into signing up for the paid version of the software.  Until I found PicMonkey.  It’s probably the most versatile and user-friendly online software that I’ve seen (although I have to confess that I haven’t done an extensive search).  You can do basic editing (cropping, exposure, etc), as well as adding different effects.  There’s also a neat collage tool where you can make a page of your photos.  Under this setting you can even make a collage that’s the right size and shape to use as a Facebook cover photo.  There are some other neat tips and tricks that I hope to share with you soon, but in the meantime here are a couple of examples of my own photos that I’ve edited in PicMonkey, and an example of a Facebook cover photo (note that I did the editing, and made the collages and text using the program).  Under their Goodies section you can add a Facebook photo editor (I haven’t tried this yet) or an extension to use in Google Chrome.  Have fun playing with your own photos!  And please send me a link so I can see what you’ve done!

Here’s the Facebook cover photo I made:
