Loving…chocolate tasting

I think that the best kinds of days are those that you don’t initially expect to be out of the ordinary.  On Sunday we woke up to a beautiful hot and sunny day, so we decided to head out to the Winelands.    We ended up at Spice Route, which is situated right next door to Fairview, outside Paarl.  They’ve recently undergone a big refurbishment, and the results are amazing.  The wine tasting and restaurant area spill out onto a beautiful lush lawn dotted with tables and umbrellas, the perfect place to relax on a warm day.  They’ve also included a glass blowing workshop and a chocolate factory, and a beer brewery is set to open soon.

DV Artisan Chocolates source their own cacao beans from around the world, which they then roast, refine and mould in the micro batch factory.  They offer daily chocolate tastings, where you are guided through their six 70% Single Origin dark chocolates.  The showroom opens onto the small factory floor, so you can watch the process as it happens.  All the chocolates are beautifully packaged, and you couldn’t ask for a more spectacular setting.  They also offer paired wine and chocolate tastings, so I can highly recommend a visit soon!  For more info you can visit the DV website here.
